EAC Ministers Meet to Review Regional Energy, Petroleum, and Mining Sector

Arusha, Tanzania – The 17th Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers on Energy, Petroleum, and Mining is currently taking place at the East African Community (EAC) Headquarters in Arusha. The high-level discussions focus on the region’s power supply situation and the implementation of the East African Power System Master Plan (EAPMP).

Key agenda items include reviewing the progress of previous Sectoral Council decisions, the draft Regional EAC Energy Efficiency Policy, and internal audit and conference reports from the 10th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (EAPCE’23). The ministers are also discussing preparations for future conferences, including the 11th EAPCE in 2025 and the 12th EAPCE in 2027.

The five-day meeting, which commenced on February 10, 2025, has brought together working groups, senior officials, and coordination committees. The final session, scheduled for February 14, will see participation from Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers from EAC partner states.

The gathering aims to assess progress in the energy, petroleum, and mining sectors, ensuring the implementation of Council decisions. Key focus areas include renewable energy, energy conservation, fossil fuels, and regional power and mining developments.
