Absa Bank Kenya has taken a bold step in strengthening global business ties by flagging off a delegation of Absa Business Club members for a high-impact trade and investment mission to Estonia and Finland. The trip, scheduled from February 15 to 25, 2025, aims to unlock new opportunities for Kenyan businesses in key international markets.
The delegation comprises entrepreneurs and executives from diverse sectors, including Information Communication Technology (ICT), manufacturing, Industry 4.0, healthcare, and fintech. Organized in partnership with Golden Connections International, the initiative seeks to connect Kenyan businesses with their European counterparts, fostering valuable collaborations and expanding trade prospects.
Driving Global Business Expansion
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Nairobi, Absa Bank Kenya’s Business Banking Director, Elizabeth Wasunna, underscored the importance of global partnerships in driving SME growth.
“We are committed to making a meaningful impact on the economy. SMEs contribute up to 40% of our GDP, and for them to thrive, they need more than just financing—they require mentorship, resources, and access to new markets. This trip, in collaboration with the Estonian Embassy and Golden Connections International, reaffirms our commitment to empowering SMEs with the tools they need to compete globally,” said Wasunna.
Joel Karubiu, Country Representative and Export Adviser at Enterprise Estonia, emphasized Estonia’s role as a gateway to the European market.
“Estonia is a global leader in digital innovation, e-governance, and business-friendly policies. This trip provides Kenyan SMEs with a unique opportunity to explore investment prospects, forge strategic partnerships, and gain insights into Estonia’s thriving tech ecosystem,” Karubiu noted.
Exploring Estonia and Finland’s Business Landscape
During the visit, the delegation will participate in business-to-business meetings, industry-specific seminars, and networking events with members of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce. The itinerary also includes an in-depth look at Estonia’s e-governance system, cultural exchanges, and a visit to Helsinki, Finland, offering a well-rounded experience of the European business environment.
As Absa Bank Kenya continues to champion SME growth, this initiative is set to enhance trade, investment, and brand positioning for participating businesses, reinforcing Kenya’s presence on the global stage.
