Uganda has taken a strategic step in promoting itself as a premier travel destination for French and Spanish-speaking tourists by welcoming a group of prominent social media influencers from France and Spain. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and the Ugandan Embassy in France, aims to elevate Uganda’s global tourism profile and attract new visitors from European markets.
With a collective audience of over 2 million followers, these influencers will explore Uganda and share their experiences online, helping to showcase the country’s breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse wildlife. Their visit, which extends until March 15, is expected to generate substantial online engagement and inspire potential travelers from France and Spain to consider Uganda as their next destination.
During the formal welcome event in Kampala, Mr. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Uganda’s tourism potential. He emphasized that the country’s favorable climate, vibrant cultural diversity, and the warmth of its people make it an ideal travel destination.
“As you embark on your journey across Uganda, you will witness firsthand our nation’s unique attractions, from breathtaking national parks to awe-inspiring landscapes. We are confident that your experiences will captivate your audiences and encourage more visitors to explore the Pearl of Africa,” Bagiire stated.
He also commended the Ugandan diplomatic mission in Paris for actively promoting Uganda’s tourism sector and reiterated the importance of digital storytelling in influencing global travel trends. “Your content has the power to reshape perceptions and position Uganda as a must-visit location for travelers worldwide,” he told the influencers.
Uganda’s Ambassador to France, Doreen Ruth Amule, reinforced this message by underscoring the country’s unmatched natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and deep cultural richness. “Through this collaboration, we hope to share Uganda’s magic with a global audience and solidify our reputation as an exceptional travel destination,” she remarked.
The influencers, associated with TANKE, a Paris-based creative influencer marketing agency, will embark on an exciting itinerary designed to highlight Uganda’s top attractions. Their journey includes:
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – A UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for gorilla trekking.
Queen Elizabeth National Park – Famous for its diverse wildlife, including the iconic tree-climbing lions.
The Nile River – Offering thrilling adventure activities such as white-water rafting and bungee jumping.
Cultural Immersion – Opportunities to engage with local communities and savor authentic Ugandan cuisine.
The Role of Influencers in Promoting Uganda
Ms. Lilly Ajarova, CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing the significant role social media influencers play in marketing destinations. “We are delighted to host these content creators, whose digital reach will elevate Uganda’s visibility and position our country as a top travel destination in the French and Spanish-speaking markets,” she stated.
Margaret Kafeero, Head of Public Diplomacy, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the broader impact of the campaign. “This initiative is a crucial step in bridging the gap between Uganda and potential tourists from France and Spain. By leveraging the power of influencer marketing, we are strengthening our global appeal and inviting more travelers to experience the beauty of Uganda.”
