Police Investigate Charles Muvawala’s Alleged Abduction Following Bizarre Disappearance

Kampala, (UG): The Uganda Police Force has launched an official investigation into the alleged abduction of Charles Bukenya ‘Muvawala’, the Vice President of the Uganda North America Association (UNAA), who was reported missing last week and later found in Buliisa, claiming to have been dumped there by his captors.

At the weekly press briefing in Kampala on Monday, Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma addressed the public about the incident, confirming that the police were aware of the situation and had initiated investigations to uncover the facts and motives behind the event.

“We have been monitoring the circulation of information on social media regarding Mr. Muvawala’s disappearance. On Friday, March 7, 2025, Mr. Muvawala resurfaced, allegedly after being abandoned by his captors in Buliisa,” ACP Kituuma shared.

The sequence of events began on the night of March 5, 2025, when Muvawala’s driver, Mr. Businge, reported to the Old Kampala police station about his employer’s sudden disappearance. According to Businge, he had accompanied Muvawala to Happy Boys bar in Nakulabye, where Muvawala was using the sauna. They spent several hours together before Muvawala informed Businge that he was heading across the road to an Equity Bank ATM for a transaction.

However, after Muvawala left the bar, Businge was unable to contact him, as all attempts to reach him via phone were unsuccessful. Eventually, Muvawala sent a text message indicating he had been abducted.

Police launched a preliminary investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The footage showed Muvawala leaving the bar and briefly talking to unidentified individuals before getting on a motorcycle and heading off to an unknown location.

Two days later, on March 7, 2025, Muvawala’s brother informed the police that he had been found in Buliisa. In response to these new developments, Businge stated he would consult with the Secretary General and deputy spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP) for further guidance.

ACP Kituuma noted that the police have asked Muvawala’s brother to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. He reassured the public that Uganda Police is committed to thoroughly investigating the alleged abduction, stating, “We will pursue the case to its logical conclusion.”

The police are calling on any individuals with relevant information to cooperate with their investigation, as they work to uncover the truth behind Muvawala’s mysterious disappearance and return.
