President Yoweri Museveni has urged Ugandans to dismiss corrupt officials from the Parish Development Model (PDM) committees, emphasizing the need for strict oversight to ensure the program’s success. He stressed that citizens should not tolerate any misconduct that could jeopardize the initiative, which aims to integrate them into the money economy and combat poverty.
Speaking at a public rally on Friday, March 21, at Kahunde Playground in Isunga sub-county, Kagadi district, the President addressed residents as part of his wealth creation and PDM performance assessment tour in the Bunyoro Sub-region.
“You should take ownership of the PDM initiative, from its administration to implementation, and hold accountable anyone attempting to undermine it. This program is specifically designed to uplift communities at the grassroots,” President Museveni stated.
Government’s Commitment to Free Education
In his speech, the President reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing free education by establishing at least one primary school per parish and one secondary school per sub-county. This initiative, he said, is crucial to reducing school dropout rates, especially among vulnerable children.
He urged residents of Bunyoro to monitor schools and report any cases of illegal charges in government institutions. Museveni further highlighted that the free education policy has expanded to the tertiary level through Presidential Skilling Hubs and public universities.
Infrastructure and Agricultural Development
Reiterating his government’s commitment to infrastructure development, Museveni announced plans to enhance road construction, improve water supply, expand electricity distribution, and boost healthcare services. He encouraged farmers to adopt modern agricultural techniques such as irrigation to increase productivity.
Land Evictions and Law Enforcement
Addressing land disputes, the President directed district authorities in Bunyoro to report any illegal evictions by landlords so that the government can take appropriate action. He reassured citizens that land laws, as established in the Constituent Assembly, protect both landlords and tenants, ensuring security of tenure for all.
Additionally, he instructed the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye, to initiate the construction of a new police station at Isumba sub-county headquarters, responding to requests from the local community.
Support for Veterans and Healthcare Services
In a gesture of support to the region, President Museveni pledged Shs300 million to Birembo War veterans and announced other financial donations to the Bunyoro sub-region. He also emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, calling for stricter wetland protection measures.
As part of efforts to strengthen healthcare services, the President handed over a fully equipped class B ambulance to Kagadi District Hospital, enhancing emergency response capabilities in the area.
