Chief Whip Hamson Obua has issued a strong call for all Ugandans, including government officials, to uphold the Constitution and diligently fulfill their civic duties, warning that failure to do so could lead to political unrest and instability.
Obua’s remarks come at a time when political tensions are rising, with increasing concerns over governance and adherence to the Constitution becoming more prominent in national discourse.
In his address to the nation, Obua stressed the critical importance of cooperation and following constitutional principles. He cautioned that neglecting these responsibilities could result in instability and urged both leaders and citizens to act responsibly to maintain peace.
“When we fail to cooperate and follow the Constitution, we risk descending into the chaos we are currently witnessing,” Obua warned.
He reminded Ugandans that the framers of the Constitution had anticipated challenges like these and had established clear guidelines for citizens' roles and duties. According to Obua, it is essential to take these constitutional obligations seriously.
“We must exercise our constitutional rights, duties, and obligations exactly as the Constitution mandates,” he emphasized.
Obua’s statement comes amid growing opposition concerns over human rights issues and the integrity of electoral processes. Political analysts believe that his remarks may reflect mounting frustrations within the ruling party, with some officials calling for reforms to address these national concerns.
