Algeria Wins Appeal Against RS Berkane’s Disputed Map Jersey in CAF Clash

The Algerian Football Federation has won its appeal against a decision allowing Moroccan club RS Berkane to wear jerseys featuring an extended map of Morocco in last season’s CAF Confederation Cup. The map included disputed territories, sparking controversy with Algerian club USM Alger.

USM Alger refused to play their semi-final against Berkane, calling the move a provocation. CAF initially awarded Berkane two 3-0 victories and dismissed USM Alger’s appeal. However, after taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Algeria secured a ruling that deemed Berkane’s jerseys a violation of CAF and FIFA regulations, which prohibit political content on sports equipment.

Despite the ruling, last season’s CAF Confederation Cup outcome remains unchanged, with Egypt’s Zamalek having won the title. USM Alger and RS Berkane could face off again in this year’s semi-finals.
