Hajjat Namyalo Urges Bazzukulu to Join Entebbe Empowerment Drive, Dismisses Scholarship Rumors

Kampala, Uganda: Hajjat Namyalo, the Special Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, has called on Bazzukulu (grandchildren) to gather in large numbers for the upcoming empowerment event in Entebbe and the broader Wakiso area. The event, which is part of President Museveni's initiative to support grassroots empowerment, is set to take place on June 27, 2024, and will distribute tools and resources to youth and women groups to boost their economic activities.

In a press briefing held on Tuesday, March 25, 2024, at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, Hajjat Namyalo explained that the initiative was designed to help those who may have been hindered by the bureaucracy in government programs such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM). The campaign, according to Namyalo, seeks to provide affordable startup equipment, with items starting from as low as Shs 50,000 to assist individuals in launching their ventures.

“We recognize that government programs, while valuable, are sometimes burdened by excessive bureaucracy. This initiative is aimed at bypassing those delays and providing immediate support to empower Bazzukulu,” Namyalo stated, receiving enthusiastic support from the attendees.

Namyalo also recalled a similar program in 2015 led by Gen. Salim Saleh, which provided tools and equipment such as welding machines and automobile toolboxes, although it was later disrupted by corruption. Upon taking office as the Political Head at Kyambogo, she revitalized the campaign to rejuvenate NRM support and foster economic independence across the country.

The June 27 event is expected to distribute a wide variety of wealth-creation items to organized youth and women groups, including fishing gear, salon equipment, welding machines, agricultural tools, and various food processing machines. Namyalo emphasized that the event is open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, stating, “This initiative is about empowering people out of poverty, not politics. Whether you’re from NRM, NUP, FDC, or any other party, come and benefit from the support that President Museveni and other stakeholders are providing.”

Addressing the growing rumors circulating on social media, Hajjat Namyalo also clarified her involvement in the Iran scholarship program. She explained that the ONC had advertised scholarships to Iran, and 69 students who met the necessary criteria traveled to Iran for studies on February 3, 2024. Namyalo strongly denied the rumors that she had profited from the scholarship process and urged anyone with evidence to report it to the authorities.

“People have been making baseless claims about me regarding the Iran scholarships. I want to make it clear that I didn’t receive any payments for this. If anyone has evidence of corruption, they should go to the police,” Namyalo said. “The scholarship process was coordinated by my staff and Ms. Esther Nankinga, who works with the Iranian Embassy. I told the students from the beginning not to pay any money to anyone, and if anyone did, they should report it.”

Namyalo condemned corruption in all its forms and stated that if any fraud occurred, the individuals responsible should be held accountable, not the institution or her office.

Concluding her remarks, Namyalo called for unity among all stakeholders to work towards the goal of securing President Museveni’s return to office in the 2026 elections through the #TovaKuMain2026 campaign. “Let’s put our differences aside and focus on the greater goal of securing a brighter future for all Ugandans,” she added.
