Two Ugandan Youth Shortlisted for 2025 Commonwealth Youth Awards

Uganda’s young changemakers are gaining international recognition, with Comfort Peace Ayikoru and Daphine Namagembe making it to the shortlist for the 2025 Commonwealth Youth Awards. Selected from over 800 applicants, they are among 20 exceptional finalists acknowledged for their impactful contributions to community development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ayikoru represents Uganda in the Africa region, standing alongside finalists from Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Her project addresses a critical community issue, highlighting her dedication to driving positive change. Other African finalists include:

  • Faith Kuya (Tanzania)
  • Fredrick Kioka Kilonzo (Kenya)
  • Stanley Anigbogu (Nigeria)

Namagembe has been recognized as one of five PEACE Award winners for her outstanding efforts in promoting peace and social cohesion. Other PEACE Award recipients include:

  • Abongdoh Maluyane Titu (Cameroon)
  • Emmanuel Cosmas Msoka (Tanzania)
  • Fakhar Jabran (Pakistan)
  • Hafsah Muheed (Sri Lanka)

The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, Commonwealth Secretary-General, praised the finalists, commending their commitment to building a fairer and more sustainable Commonwealth. The awards ceremony is set for March 12, 2025, at Marlborough House, London, and will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook.

Uganda’s youth continue to make strides on the global stage, and Ayikoru and Namagembe’s achievements reflect the country’s growing influence in youth-driven development. Their recognition is a moment of pride for Uganda, inspiring future generations to lead change.
