Nicki Minaj is facing legal action after a former manager, Brandon Garrett, filed a lawsuit accusing the rapper of assault. Garrett, who claims to have worked as Minaj’s manager during her Pink Friday 2 Tour in 2024, alleges that she physically attacked him following a concert in Detroit.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, includes accusations of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. According to Garrett’s legal documents, the incident took place in April 2024, backstage at the Little Caesars Arena. He claims that Minaj became enraged after learning he had asked someone else to pick up her prescription, leading to a verbal altercation. Garrett says Minaj then threatened him, stating that her husband would have knocked his teeth out and that he had “f**ked up” his life.
Garrett claims the confrontation escalated when Minaj struck him in the face with an open hand, causing his head to jerk backward and his hat to fly off. He also alleges that Minaj hit his wrist, leaving it throbbing. After the incident, Garrett says Minaj’s security team surrounded him and ordered him to leave her dressing room. Fearing for his safety, Garrett locked himself in a bathroom and was later stranded in Detroit when he was not allowed back onto the tour bus.
In response to the lawsuit, Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit “false and frivolous.” He clarified that Garrett was never Minaj’s manager and expressed confidence that the case would be dismissed in Minaj’s favor.
The lawsuit comes amid Minaj’s ongoing Pink Friday 2 World Tour, which started in March 2024 and ended in October, covering 79 shows across three continents. However, Minaj had to cancel three shows in June after a legal issue arose during her time in the Netherlands, where she was arrested for possessing marijuana.
